The Interbranch Commission for Gender, Racial and Ethnic Fairness was formed in 2005 at the recommendation of the Supreme Court with the concurrence of the governor and legislative leaders. Its purpose is to ensure that people of every race, gender and ethnic background are treated fairly and respectfully throughout all offices of state government.
The commission has 24 members. Eight members are appointed by the Supreme Court, eight by the governor and eight by the legislature. The membership is racially and ethnically diverse. Members include judges, lawyers, legislators and community advocates.
