The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania is assisted by several advisory panels that carry out specific assigned tasks for the court or provide on-going counsel in given areas. Often the names of these panels define their roles, as with the Committee for Proposed Standard Jury Instructions or the Interbranch Commission for Gender, Racial and Ethnic Fairness. The Judicial Independence Commission was formed to monitor a trend in attacks on the judiciary and to advise the Supreme Court on how to respond and counter unfair attacks. The Judicial Council is a broad-based advisory body which most recently developed the first ever strategic plan for the Unified Judicial System.
